Project description:
The CEIP Marcelo Usera is a very small, unique and beautiful public nursery and primary school, located in Madrid capital, in the district of Usera-Villaverde.
The CEIP Marcelo Usera is a line 1 center, cataloged by the educational administration as a “center of difficult performance”,given the socio-family characteristics of the school population we serve and, for ten years, Preferential Center for students with autism, with two support classrooms, the Aula Palmas and the Aula Palmitas.
This course, 2017-2018, the Faculty of Teachers has focused its cognitive accessibility project on the recreation scenario, considering that this moment / time / space, also needs to incorporate (as it is in the classrooms or in situations of structured learning) permanent information systems in a visual key.
In order to carry out this project and finance the expenses, the idea was presented to the Municipal District Board,to a call for educational innovation projects,in which it was the winning project,“which has allowed it to be carried out without having to resort to plan B without having to think about how to execute plan A without extra resources”.
The objective of the project has been to incorporate in each of the metal sheets that are part of the courtyard enclosure wall(53 sheets in total)the information in a visual key so that“the time of patio / recreation is simpler, beautiful and kind to all our students”.

To this end, the project was organized in several phases:
- First quarter:The different teaching teams generated proposals for “information units”,attending to the needs they observe their students present when they go to recess.
- Second trimester: Sharing of the different proposals made by the different teaching teams, selection of the information units and beginning of the graphic design with the AraWordapplication) of the same.
- Third quarter: Continuation of the design and selection of printing media, stickers for social scripts and basic information and magnets for the proposal of specific games and their rules.
In the month of May, the Cloister will aim to analyze / evaluate the experience, and see those aspects that we can improve before entering the next scenario that we want to be accessible: the school canteen.
From the center they tell us “that a five-year-old Chinese student who still does not master the language takes his partner with ASD to one of the panels and tells him, while touching the panel, that when they open the access door to the center he should not put his hand because they can catch it, it is a clear example that this project is very worthwhile”.
Undoubtedly, a magnificent Faculty of Teachers, an impressive project and students very fortunate to belong to this center, a model in terms of cognitive accessibility and attention to students.
From ARASAAC,you know that with all our recognition and support and for this collaborative project that we make possible together is another great example to follow and take into account.
Congratulations!!!
